Rowan Atkinson bumbles back into cinemas as Britain’s worst spy, and this third adventure sticks rigidly to the successful formula of the action comedy franchise.
When a digital hacker threatens national security, the British Secret service turn to the old school and proudly analogue secret agent to save the day.
At 63 years old, Atkinson is now five years older than Roger Moore was in his last 007 appearance, and though Atkinson’s not as limber he once was, he motors through his familiar repertoire of funny faces and elastic dancing with practised ease, pepping up a script from series’ stalwart, William Davies.
Former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko plays a demure Russian agent and Emma Thompson adds a topical edge to the fun as a hapless Prime Minister.
By knowing exactly what they were doing the previous two films took a total of £250m on a combined budget of £70m, and there’s sufficient silliness here to keep the kids entertained once again.
